Eyalet Valisi Salomon Jara, basına yaptığı açıklamada, başkent Meksiko'dan hareken eden yolcu otobüsünün Mitla-Tehuantepec otoyolunda devrildiğini bildirdi.

Kazada, 18 kişinin yaşamını yitirdiğini, 2'si ağır 29 kişinin de yaraladığını kaydeden Jara, yaralıların hastaneye kaldırıldığını söyledi.

Jara, hayatını kaybedenlerin ailelerine başsağlığı dileğinde bulunarak, kazanın nedeninin araştırılacağını belirtti.

Yerel basına göre, kazada hayatını kaybedenlerin iktidardaki Ulusal Yenilenme Hareketi (MORENA) partisinin destekçileri olduğu ve bu kişilerin Devlet Başkanı Claudia Sheinbaum'ın pazar günü Meksiko'da düzenlediği mitinge katıldıkları ortaya çıktı.
